Position Summary:

Responsible for designing and maintaining all production extrusion dies & tooling, troubleshooting all extrusion processes, as well as designing and implementing process improvements.

Primary Responsibilities:

Will be familiar with each extrusion line process, for development of extrusion tooling on those lines. Utilize engineering disciplines to trouble shoot shop floor activities and improve shop floor through put to reduce costs. Interacts with Divisional Engineering on new jobs related to PPAP and process items. Works together with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Production Teams and on job related functions. Works closely with operators, shift supervisors and department managers to ensure proper quality operations of extrusion tooling. Communicates foreseen issues with department managers for discussion and resolution. Coordinates and performs initial trial runs on new extrusion tooling. Document and track issues until resolution. Initiates improvements to existing systems, processes machinery, and equipment to support manufacturing functions and operations. Creates or constructs bill of materials, for all extrusion tooling. Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions. Keeps up to date with technology improvements, and recommends implementation of equipment and tool build processes, establishing cost reduction improvements with justification. Works on continuous improvement programs and cost reduction projects for Extrusion tooling, for extrusion and secondary processes. Participate in and performs Layered Process Audits (LPA). Maintains process documentation and job records as required. Creates Work Instructions as needed for training tool and die technicians. May work with laboratory in conducting material and product test and evaluations. Provides assistance to department managers on assigned projects. May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description. Ability to supervise tool & die technicians and workloads.

Education and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline with extrusion process engineering experience and extrusion tooling design or equivalent combination of less education and more related plastics manufacturing experience of 5 years. Experience using 3-Dimensional CAD Software (SolidWorks Preferred). Ability to be part of and lead multi‐disciplinary task teams. Excellent knowledge of manufacturing parts and processes. Will interact with all levels of management and must be able to communicate effectively. Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary.

Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor. Temperature and noise may vary depending on external environmental conditions.
