- As an R D Engineer II, you will play a critical role in advancing technologies that enhance the performance and application of medical devices.
You will be responsible for designing and executing preclinical and nonclinical laboratory studies to evaluate the effectiveness and performance of emerging technologies. A key focus of this role will be mechanical testing of spinal implants and instrumentation used in the treatment of degenerative, deformity, and tumor/trauma-related spinal conditions. Responsibilities includes but not limited to: + Conduct mechanical bench testing to evaluate the strength and fatigue characteristics of various spinal implant systems. + Collaborate with senior engineering and research staff to support the development and refinement of new medical technologies. + Design, test, and optimize components and manufacturing processes through methodical experimentation and evaluation. + Coordinate and engage with internal teams and external research partners to design and execute studies that align with project goals. + Perform literature reviews to inform and support the development of testing methods. + Manage and oversee research and testing activities conducted at third-party or external facilities. + Collaborate with scientists and engineers across the Medtronic organization on development and preclinical initiatives. + Analyze and interpret experimental data, drawing meaningful conclusions to guide product development. + Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations to communicate findings and recommendations effectively. + Provide technical expertise and support across functions including Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and Operations. + Stay up to date with industry trends, scientific advancements, and evolving standards relevant to spinal technologies. + Ensure all documentation complies with quality management systems and regulatory standards to support product commercialization.
