What You’ll Be Doing Job Scope:
As a geo-technical engineer, you will be responsible for the study and review of the natural environment before a construction project takes place. This includes reviewing the surrounding minerals and materials and helping to design projects based on your findings. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Gathering and analyzing data Looking at the risk of geological hazards and making sure any factors affecting engineering works are identified and managed Advising on procedures required and the suitability of construction materials Using specialist computer software to create analytical 2D and 3D models Consulting geological maps and aerial photographs to advise on site selection Assisting with the design of built structures, using specialized computer software or calculations Planning detailed field investigations by drilling and analyzing samples of deposits or bedrock Supervising ground investigations and budgets Advising on and testing a range of construction materials including sand, gravel, bricks and clay Making recommendations on the proposed use of a site Managing staff, including other engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, consultants and contractors Working to preserve and protect the physical environment Analyzing sites and designs for environmentally sensitive developments, such as landfill.
Ideal Background Education:
Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration:
Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
Experience:
This position requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering. Promotes the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process design. Basic knowledge of chemical/biochemical process engineering and chemical/biochemical process computer programs. Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping. Ability to create accurate process engineering documents from the information provided in vendor equipment data and drawings. Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process engineering and design functions. Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD or Microstation (or both). Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Working knowledge in the use of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet. Working knowledge in the use of process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Plus Dynamics, PRO/II, DYNSIM, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, WinGEMS, ProMax, etc. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.
