Schedule:

Monday•Thursday, 2:30 PM•1:00 AM (Friday OT as needed, up to 5 hours)

Overtime Available Position Summary:

The Certified Welding Inspector will oversee and verify welding activities to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding procedures, and quality control practices in a shop environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform visual weld inspections and verify conformance to AWS D1.1 and project specifications. Monitor and document welding operations to ensure compliance with WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications). Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols. Maintain inspection records, reports, and non-conformance documentation. Communicate with shop supervisors and welders to address quality issues or improvement areas. Assist with welder qualification testing and re-certifications. Work closely with the QA/QC Manager to uphold quality assurance protocols. Ensure safe work practices and adherence to company safety policies during all inspection activities.

Requirements:

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required. Minimum 3 years’ experience in structural steel welding inspection. Solid understanding of AWS D1.1 and other relevant codes. Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and welding symbols. Strong documentation and reporting skills. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Comfortable working in a shop environment with heavy steel and fabrication equipment. Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods during shift.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in a structural steel fabrication shop. Familiarity with AISC standards and practices. Knowledge of NDT (MT, PT, UT) processes is a plus.
