The CorrosionTechnician I role is responsible to inspect, maintain, and designcathodic protection systems and equipment used for corrosioncontrol to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies,and procedures. This is a field-based role with frequent work inopen environments with extremes of heat and cold, often inproximity to high voltage and/or chemicals, which requires safetyaccommodations such as protective clothing and equipment. This roleis subject to callouts for work associated with Plains fieldoperations and/or emergency response.

Job Responsibilities:

Worksunder task-oriented supervision for most activities. Conductsscheduled cathodic protection (CP) surveys of pipelines incompliance with Department of Transportation (DOT). Reads allrectifiers, anodes, foreign bonds, pipelines, and casing testpoints on an annual basis and takes quarterly reading of allrectifiers and control points. Responsible for chemical treatmentsand reads all internal corrosion monitoring devices bi-annually.

Computerizes all data and provides reports to the CorrosionSupervisor. Maintains records such as annual level of protection,quarterly readings, and rectifier logbooks, test station (ETS)alignments, etc. Conducts interface tests that measure cathodicprotection and other electrical effects. Receives instruction,guidance, and direction from others; follows direction to consultwith others on specific work activities. Responsible to completeother related duties that may be assigned based on operationalrequirements and priorities. Develops skills by performingstructured work assignments. Demonstrates safe work practicesfollowing Plains’ safety policies and procedures. Accountable toinform senior personnel of hazard identification and near misses.

Assists with any other pipeline / terminal related duties asassigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

High schooldiploma or equivalent. Ability to speak, read, and write Englishand the ability to perform basic math. Must be working toward NACECP Tester 1 Certification and obtain within 2 years. Has generalknowledge or related training / experience in pipeline systemoperations. Ability to read and interpret pipeline maps, technicaldrawings, and technical schematics. Ability to work in a team-basedwork environment, with strong communication and interpersonalskills. Knowledge and experience in the maintenance and use of:half-cells, UT equipment, cadweld processes, coatingevaluations/applications equipment, CPDM, GPS, data loggers, pipelocators, current interrupters and related testing/diagnostic andpipe protection equipment and processes. Must have good computerskills and experience using Microsoft Office suite with strongemphasis on Excel and/or other spreadsheet applications. Must befamiliar with PHMSA and OSHA regulations as well as Plains’operating procedures. Must have an outstanding safety record.

Ability to successfully complete basic corrosion training;Rectifier School; and Basic Coatings and Linings. Ability tosuccessfully complete company Haz-Mat training, mandatory safetytraining, and other related training as assigned. Ability to workin moderate to heavy physically demanding working conditions,including working outdoors in an open environment with extremes ofheat and cold. Legally authorized to work in the job postingcountry. Valid drivers’ license with a clean abstract. Clearedcriminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
