A Distribution Engineering Associate is an entrylevel position in the field of electrical engineering, focused on assisting in the design, planning, and management of electrical distribution systems. These professionals work under the guidance of experienced engineers to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable distribution of electrical power.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in

Distribution System Design:

Collaborate with senior engineers to design, plan, and optimize electrical distribution systems. Help create detailed drawings and plans for distribution infrastructure.

Data Collection:

Meet in the field with customers to establish electrical needs. Collect and analyze data related to the distribution network, including load data, system performance data, and asset information. Use data to assist in decisionmaking.

Equipment Selection:

Assist in the selection and specification of distribution equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and protective devices, considering voltage levels and load requirements.

Safety and Compliance:

Ensure that distribution system designs and plans comply with safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry codes. Assist in obtaining regulatory approvals.

Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of distribution equipment and infrastructure. Update documentation and drawings to reflect changes and upgrades.

Project Support:

Provide support to senior engineers and project managers in the execution of distribution infrastructure projects. Assist in project planning, budgeting, and coordination.

Emergencies and Outages:

Assist in responding to emergency situations, such as power outages or equipment failures. Collaborate with the team to help restore power quickly during and after working hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

Software Tools:

Become proficient in distribution system design software and power system simulation software used in the industry.

Technical Learning:

Continuously learn and stay up-todate with developments in electrical distribution engineering, including new technologies and industry trends.

Communication:

Collaborate effectively with customers, team members, engineers, and other stakeholders. Clearly and proactively convey information and updates on projects and tasks.

Qualifications:
Education:

A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field is preferred. Some positions may consider candidates with an associate degree or relevant coursework.

Professional Development:

Entry-level engineers may be encouraged to work toward obtaining a professional engineering license (PE) or other certifications as they gain experience.

Technical Skills:

Basic knowledge of distribution system design principles and electrical engineering concepts. Familiarity with tools used in the industry.

Safety Awareness:

A commitment to safety protocols and procedures in electrical engineering and distribution.

Analytical Skills:

Basic analytical and problem-solving skills to assist in assessing network performance and troubleshooting issues.

Adaptability:

Willingness to learn and adapt to changing priorities, work schedules, new technologies, industry standards, and company-specific practices.

Communication:

Good communication skills to work effectively within a team and convey information to customers, colleagues and supervisors.
