The Utility Systems & Solutions business in Siemens’ Electrification & Automation business unit oversees the expansion and advancement of EA’s Utility and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) markets. Within its comprehensive product portfolio, one finds an array of offerings, such as medium voltage switchgear (AIS & GIS), Outdoor Circuit Breakers, MV Control, Power Equipment Centers, Overhead distribution products, low voltage motor control centers, photovoltaic (PV) Inverters, and supplementary MV and LV products. These elements are consistently integrated into full-fledged electrical packaged solutions deployed in substations, power plants, and renewable energy power generation projects. We are looking for a Lead Engineer. This position will be based in Wendell, NC and allows a hybrid schedule of in office and remote work. The Lead Engineer delivers expert engineering services with minimal guidance, adeptly interpreting customer drawings and specifications for manufacturing or related products. This role also actively collaborates with the Sales & Business Development teams during project negotiations. The Lead Engineer excels at deciphering project plans, one-lines, three-lines, schematics, and specifications to configure systems, offer technical support, and craft compelling commercial proposals. Moreover, the Lead Engineer extends invaluable post-order engineering assistance, ensuring seamless integration of the product into the customer’s system and facilitating the commissioning process.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Utility Lead Engineer will support sales force on Medium Voltage Air Insulated and Gas Insulated switchgear packages. Interpretation of project plans and specifications, product application, configuration of product, technical support, proposal preparation, lead time information, review of project terms and conditions and pricing authority managed to price bands as determined by manager. Review customer needs and specifications to determine the minimum bill of material, most competitive price level, and shipment cycle within the market segment pertaining to each specific negotiation. You will interact with sales force and customers on job specific details such as on-board approvals and witness tests, as well as design circuits to meet application requirements. Review and analyze product configurations and components, design circuits, perform engineering calculations, and provide input to other departments including drafting, purchasing, and manufacturing personnel. Participate in company activities such as product design, market and product improvements, productivity, quality, and safety improvement. You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, equivalent experience, or at least 5-10 years of Utility market experience. Proven experience in a similar role in Power Distribution Industry with focus on Medium Voltage Air Insulated or Gas Insulated products and associated components like bus ducts, transformers, etc Strong background in protection systems, control systems, and communications protocols. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for training and customer interactions. Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site support and training; could be up to 20%. Strong technical skills and proficiency with engineering design software for 2-D drawings like Autocad.

The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
