Sourcing Engineer Job Description The Sourcing Engineer is responsible for designing prototypes and developing products, managing the sourcing and procurement of parts until the design reaches production level. This role requires the ability to read drawings, interpret technical data packages from vendors, understand product development, and manage project deliverables, including placing orders and meeting supplier timelines. A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred, along with 7-10 years of experience in mechanical device design and development, as well as exposure to supplier development and supply chain. Responsibilities Conduct supplier selection for specific products using the approved supplier list. Partner with strategic suppliers to accelerate product development through concept scoping, feature trade-offs, should cost models, and joint design development. Drive the development and consolidation of a manufacturing BOM, working with Quality & Manufacturing to ramp production internally and with suppliers. Manage CAPEX throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. Conduct value-stream mapping to optimize supply network lead time and flexibility. Complete BOM risk assessment and include alternate component sourcing. Ensure completion of all component qualifications before production. Reduce complexity through commonality optimization and component/supplier rationalization. Lead cost engineering activities to maximize total cost of ownership across the product lifecycle. Manage ad-hoc cost issues like tariffs, import/export costs, and cost inflation. The environment is 80% office and 20% manufacturing floor, requiring hands-on interaction with products. The team currently consists of four sourcing engineers, with plans to add two more. A new manager will begin in June, to whom the sourcing engineers will report.
