Position Summary:
FOX is seeking a highly skilled Senior Development Engineer with expertise in mechanical engineering and mechatronics to drive innovation and technology development. This role will focus on developing new concepts through technology demonstrators and proof-of-concept prototypes in the domain of vehicle suspension, vehicle dynamics, and ride dynamics.
As a key contributor to our R D and innovation initiatives, you will work on cutting-edge solutions that push the boundaries of performance in vehicle dynamics. You will also be collaborating with experts from various disciplines, ensuring the successful execution of technology development projects.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead technology development from concept generation to functional prototypes by working with an interdisciplinary team. Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, lead design reviews, perform validation testing and drive system-level optimizations
Communicate and interface with team members, representatives from other departments, and internal customers regarding problem/opportunity definitions, project scope, and project status
Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely execution and alignment with strategic technology roadmaps.
Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new concepts and technologies.
Participate/lead creative brainstorming sessions to solve technical challenges
Travel on location to support assembly, testing and verification of new designs
Create 3d models, 2d prints in CAD utilizing design standards, best practices and GD&T
Conduct system modeling, simulation, and validation of suspension and ride dynamics.
Specific Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required:
Excellent leadership abilities
Experience with suspension systems, shock absorbers and vehicle dynamics
Experience with a structured product development process and design best practices
Experience with automotive vehicle chassis systems
Experience with electro-mechanical components, assemblies and systems
Ability to work across teams to achieve project goals
Understanding of machining, forging, stamping and other manufacturing processes
Experience with CAD; 3D models, mechanical prints with GD&T
Design experience for high volume manufacturing
Thorough understanding of both engineering and manufacturing theories and processes
Basic project management (develop and maintain project scope, task lists, timelines)
Comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, analysis, debug, verification, transfer to manufacturing, and sustainment.
Component selection and design for reliability and manufacturability
Mechanical analysis, including statics, dynamics, kinematics, stress, fatigue, thermal, and reliability
Design, review and document components, structures, and mechanical assemblies
Release designs following good documentation principles and configuration control methods
Some experience leading departmental and cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives from concept through completion
Capacity to supervise multiple complex projects
Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) across all levels and organizations
Ability to supervise and mentor other engineers
Demonstrated excitement to learn and quickly examine tough technical problems
Passion for creating robust, reliable products with an excellent commitment to quality
Strong interpersonal skills including ownership, self-motivated, problem solving, analytical, team player, innovative, creative, communication skills and ability to develop & mutually thrive in working relationships
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
B.S. or M.S in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics Engineering
Experience:
10+ years of mechanical design, analysis and testing experience in mechanical components, assemblies and systems
5+ years of being a team lead on a project consisting of a complex mechanical system
Proficient in CAD detail design (Creo preferred), large assembly management, drafting high quality engineering drawings incorporating GD&T and bill of material management through PDM/PLM systems
Expert understanding of application of mechanical engineering principles, theories and concepts applied to vehicle suspension components and hydraulic elements
