Engineering Technician Boehringer Laboratories Inc 300 Thoms Drive, Phoenixville, PA 19460 Medical Device – Engineering Technician Our exciting growth has identified the need to add an Engineering Technician to join our team! The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual that enjoys innovation while supporting a variety of engineering initiatives in the medical device industry and that has a passion for creating robust, reliable products with a strong commitment to quality. Overview of the Role This role is responsible for designing and fabricating prototype medical devices and first-generation production tooling, conducting tests to assess functionality and material suitability, and transitioning prototypes to production while managing timelines, resources, and ensuring product development meets requirements. Who You’ll Work With You will report to the Engineering Manager while working closely with New Product Development Engineers, Design & Fabrication Engineers, and other Project Engineers to support assigned projects.
Major Accountabilities:
Responsible for the design and fabrication of prototype medical devices and the first-generation machines/tooling required for device production. Contributes to the designs for products relating to defined customer needs, including the adaptation of existing designs to new customer applications, designs could be in the form of sketches or final detail drawings. Sets up and conducts testing of medical device prototypes and their components to assess the functionality of designs and appropriateness of chosen materials under operational conditions to further product development. Capable of drafting and design work, including developing ideas in the form of working drawings and sketches required via CAD software. Duties and Responsibilities Determines nature of technical obstacles and possible solutions to advance product development in accordance with established engineering inputs. Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjust equipment to meet specifications. Implements the fabrication of prototypes to meet customer and internal requirements. Manages prototype tooling transition to the Manufacturing Engineering Team and assists with the successful implementation of production equipment. Plans and prioritizes tasks to ensure critical elements are defined and solved. Organizes and schedules events and resources to ensure all deadlines are met. Qualifications Associate’s degree in Engineering, Machine Tool Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience in a design and fabrication role. Operate and maintain various machines in the shop, including lathe, drill press, grinders, band saws, CNC mill, and hand tools, ensuring safe and efficient use of equipment. Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing experience is preferred but not required.
