Position Summary
We are seeking a highly accomplished Chief Engineer – Gas Turbine Design to lead and drive the technical development of complete gas turbine systems for power generation applications. This individual contributor role, reporting directly to the CTO, covers the full scope of gas turbine architecture both rotating and stationary — including compressor, combustion and turbine components and systems. Deep experience with aeroderivative gas turbines is highly desirable.
This is a critical, high-impact technical leadership role that integrates advanced engineering with manufacturability, supply chain alignment, and long-term product strategy.
Position Responsibilities
System-Level Gas Turbine Design
Lead full gas turbine design from concept to detail level—including compressor, combustor, turbine stages, casings, bearings, shafts, seals, and support structures.
Driving architecture decisions and trade-off studies across aerodynamics, thermodynamics, mechanical integrity, and thermal performance.
Compressor Design
Oversee the reverse engineering design of axial-flow compressors, including aerodynamics, rotor/stator configuration, and performance optimization.
Analyze compressor surge margins, stability, and dynamic behavior under varying operating conditions.
Combustion System
Provide technical leadership on combustor design for stable, efficient, and low-emissions operation.
Support the development of fuel-flexible combustion systems (e.g., hydrogen blends, natural gas, synthetic fuels).
Hot Gas Path & Turbine Section
Lead the reverse engineering design of turbine nozzles, blades, disks, and thermal protection systems.
Optimize cooling schemes and material selection for high-temperature durability, creep, fatigue, and oxidation resistance.
Rotating and Stationary Components
Integrate and validate the design of all rotating and stationary hardware including rotors, bearings, couplings, casings, and support systems.
Perform and review rotordynamic, vibration, and stress analysis.
Manufacturing & Supply Chain Interface
Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure design for manufacturability, supplier qualification, and cost-effective sourcing.
Provide technical oversight for critical component suppliers, fabrication processes, and production ramp-up.
Cross-functional Integration
Work closely with controls, product management, thermal performance, and operations to ensure seamless system-level functionality.
Support failure analysis and field performance investigations, recommending design improvements as needed.
Technology Leadership
Guide innovation in materials, additive manufacturing, blade cooling, and low-emission combustion technologies.
Contribute to R D strategy, technology roadmaps, and IP development.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field; Ph.D. a plus.
20+ years of progressive experience in gas turbine design, ideally with exposure to aeroderivative systems for power generation.
In-depth knowledge across the entire gas turbine architecture, including rotating machinery, combustion, compressor/turbine aerodynamics, and structural design.
Proficiency in engineering tools.
Demonstrated experience working closely with manufacturing and supply chain to bring designs into production.
Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex technical issues to leadership and non-technical stakeholders..
US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in dual-fuel or hydrogen-ready combustion systems.
Familiarity with ASME PTCs, ISO 2314, API 616, and similar gas turbine standards.
Experience with turbine systems used in distributed energy, mobile power, or hybrid solutions.
It is PROENERGY’s policy to provide equal opportunity in employment to all its employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, national origin, marital status, ancestry, medical condition, military status, or any other characteristic protected by State or Federal law
