811 Utility Designator Technician GeoPoint is a land surveying company with multiple locations, specializing in land development, geomatics, geospatial mapping, commercial surveys, and subsurface utility engineering.
Summary/Objective:
The 811 Utility Designator Technician plays a crucial role in identifying and mapping underground utilities to ensure safe and efficient excavation and construction projects. This position requires a blend of technical proficiency, field experience, and strong communication skills.
Essential Job Functions:
Independently researching and interpreting complex utility record drawings and maps. Demonstrating proficiency in efficiently managing ticket load and routing tickets effectively. Utilizing electromagnetic locating equipment with confidence and precision. Maintaining a consistent and robust daily work presence. Proactively seeking clarification through effective questioning for enhanced comprehension. Exhibiting a consistent level of proficiency with the ticket management program. Utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar effectively and confidently as needed. Ensuring precision and accuracy in utility markings and comprehensive documentation. Sustaining an organized and clean working environment and truck. Readily assisting team members and taking initiative to enhance team efficiency. Demonstrating an advanced understanding of utility operations and functions. Displaying an ongoing eagerness to expand and refine skillset. Maintaining a consistently positive attitude, even during complex collaborative efforts. Recognizing and promoting the vital importance of accurate documentation.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in land surveying or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of surveying principles and familiarity with survey instruments and equipment. Physical ability to carry heavy equipment and work in various outdoor conditions. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection. Good communication and teamwork skills. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to identify types of trees and utility lines.
Physical Demands:
Work requires using a machete, shovel and sledgehammer or other appropriate tools. Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain may be required. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of field equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. Able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times a day. Drive 30 to 200 miles daily. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Due to the outdoor environments, there is a potential exposure to natural hazards.
Work Environment:
It is required to work outside in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time. The terrain may be rough, steep, wet, or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered. Desk/Workstation may be located in a confined area. Able to work overtime and some weekends. Able to work well in a team environment as well as being self-motivated and driven.
