DescriptionGAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior SurveyTechnician to work with the Florida Transportation Market Sectorwithin our Transportation Business Unit. The successful candidatewill enjoy working in a team oriented environment that will supportprofessional growth and development.
Essential Duties:
Assists surveyors and other mapmakers in obtaining andcomputing data relevant to measuring land surfaces. Obtains land survey data, such as angles, elevations, points,and contours, using electronic distance measuring equipment andother surveying instruments. Places and recovers markings, stakes and other such signifiersat work locations. Compiles notes, sketches, and records of survey data obtainedand work performed. Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers morecomplex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to asubordinate group. Oral and written communication skills. Ability to identify and seek needed information/Researchskills. Documenting/recording skills. Computer skills. General Characteristics Intermediate skills; learns basic computer skills, good visual andhearing skills, follows procedures; good organizational skills;working in weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.); workswith safety in mind, must be flexible with work hours andwillingness to travel up to 100% during the week days andoccasional weekend travel and/or work, able to do physicallydemanding work; ability to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs.routinely; ability to walk for lengthy periods; wear shirt, longpants and boots as a minimum while on the job Minimum Years of Experience 3+ Years of Experience Education H.S. Graduate Technical Responsibilities Must know survey nomenclature, should understand how to download ortransfer files from the data collector, able to operate totalstations, data collector, etc.; intermediate GPS/Survey skills;ability to set up tri-pods, levels, solid understanding ofequipment usage including calibration, and care of delicate andexpensive equipment; must have a steady hand and allow for propermeasurements required for survey technical work; must be able tooccasionally work at heights in certain environmental conditions,wade through water; ride in a boat; swimming skills (Preferred);ability tosafely use hand tools, etc Management Responsibility At this level, this individual can operate as an experiencedinstrument person requiring minimal supervision. This role alsoserves as a junior survey crew chief, runs crews when necessary,trains to become a party chief. Can work independently or lead crews when necessary Communication Skills Possess intermediate oral and written communication skills;interacts well with other staff, able to motivate others, abilityto function positively in a team environment Why GAI?
