A Utility Locating Technician identifies and marks underground utility lines to prevent damage during excavation. They use various tools and methods to locate these lines, which can include electric, gas, water, and communication cables. This work is crucial for safety and preventing service disruptions during construction projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Use GPR equipment for accurately locating underground utilities. Use corresponding GPR software for post processing of GPR Data. Use GPS Survey Equipment. Use various other survey tools. Fly Drone to capture videos of Utility markings. Perform other reasonable tasks that may be requested by the Company. General. Must have or be able to obtain Remote Pilot certificate UAS Part 107. Education and/or Experience. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Three (3) year(s) of Civil Roadway Construction & Utility Construction related duties/experience is preferred. Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Utility Locating Technician, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Routinely work a shift of 8-10 hours/per day, including occasional nights and/or weekends. Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb. Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull, periodically at least 25 pounds; occasionally, up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner. Potential limited exposure to dust, dirt grease and noise; ability to wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hardhat, fall protection and/or respirator, where applicable. Periodically walk and/or stand, for short periods of time, on various terrain, including sand, gravel, pavement and dirt. Must be able to communicate and understand both orally and written/typed. Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Utility Locating Technician encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction, landfill, and asphalt sites). Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery. Work may involve exposure to a variety of substances such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline and diesel fuel; however, no levels above OSHA Permissible exposure limit.
