ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
The Survey Technician II position is a work assignment requiring a minimum of six (6) months of surveying experience. This position is centered on assisting supervisory staff in performing field surveys and learning the fundamentals of the land surveying profession. The successful candidate can expect their duties to include
- Various manual labor tasks (dig, clear brush, drive stakes, carry survey equipment, etc.)
- Operate basic equipment (prism pole, level rod, tribrach, etc.)
- Operate advanced equipment (begin to acquire experience operating total station, robotic total station, RTK, etc.
- Stock and Load vehicle (load and unload equipment, supplies, drinking water, and other essential materials)
- Basic maintenance of vehicle and equipment (clean, care for, and safeguard equipment and vehicles)
- Safety (performs work in a safe manner, sets up safety equipment and obeys all safety regulations)
- Perform other work-related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND
SKILLSThe successful candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities
- The ability to continue to gain experience with the goal of acquiring the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform field surveys with minimal supervision
- The ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of mathematical principles
- The ability to learn advanced mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc.)
- The ability to learn to keep survey notes
- The ability to learn to operate the instruments and equipment used in land surveying
- The ability to learn the proper application of the principles and practices of land surveying
- The ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, officials and the public
- The physical strength and agility to perform various labor tasks in all weather conditions and environments
- Must be able to occasionally lift or move items weighing up to thirty (30) pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma
- Must possess a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicle and be able to secure a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment
- Must have a minimum of six (6) months of surveying experience.
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications, except licensure.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position shall be required to report for work as directed when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
