Survey Technician Job Description Join our team in Norcross, GA to play an integral role as a field crew member, performing surveying and mapping tasks, and supporting subsurface utility engineering activities such as geophysical prospecting for underground utilities and overall crew activities. Responsibilities Conduct field surveys using various survey instruments such as total stations, GPS units, and levels. Accurately collect and record survey data, including measurements of angles, distances, and elevations. Set up and operate survey equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning correctly. Maintain detailed and accurate records of survey data and observations. Work closely with survey crew chiefs, project managers, and other team members to ensure survey data meets project requirements. Travel to different project sites to perform surveys, which may include boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction stakeouts. Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Perform Survey Field Technician I functions including loading and unloading survey equipment and supplies each day, maintaining survey equipment, assisting with daily vehicle maintenance, cleaning, and completing truck sheets. Perform Survey Field Technician II functions including proficiency in the use of total stations, data collection devices, GPS equipment, and digital/automatic levels, performing basic calculations, and comprehending and interpreting site, boundary, highway, and utility plans. Essential Skills 1+ years of experience as a Surveying Instrument Operator Ability to work outdoors with surveying equipment Experience with maintaining survey equipment such as GPS, Total Stations/Robotic Total Stations, and levels Proficiency in the use of total stations, data collection devices, GPS equipment, and digital/automatic levels Strong initiative and desire to learn and advance in the survey profession Basic comprehension and interpretation of site, boundary, highway, and utility plans Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma/GED Valid driver’s license 6 months – 1 year minimum experience as a Survey Field Technician I or a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying Willing and able to travel 40% of the time (per diem included) Ability to pass a pre-employment physical Ability to perform physical movements and tasks such as bending, squatting, operating heavy tools, digging with a shovel, cutting line, and walking while carrying survey equipment and supplies desire to work OT preferred Work Environment This role involves all outside fieldwork, working in various elements. Overtime averages 10-15 hours weekly.
