POSITION SUMMARY

The FDOT Field & Survey Specialist will be responsible to prepare and manipulate raw Survey data while providing necessary planning, direction, and supervision for FDOT field operation to support the Project Managers, Field Crews and CAD Technicians for FDOT projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversee Field Team Leader and Field Team Technicians. Manage the day-to-day activities and for assigning teams to the field. Assign all new projects to Field Teams with the intention of completing the project on time. Notify FDOT Project Manager and the President of any unforeseen delays due to weather, travel time, scheduling conflicts, etc. Works with Field Team Manager to ensure FDOT trained field team are schedule to cover crew request forms. Ensure that all job folders are complete with all necessary research information, scope of work, work order, schedule for completion and all necessary forms and, that all job folders are returned to the office each evening and, that following the field work, all job folders are returned complete. Gather all schedules from jobs in progress in the field and be prepared to discuss the status at the Production meeting with the Project Manager. Consult with the field crews to verify any questionable items in the field work. Report any problems with field work, especially those that are occurring on a regular basis to the CAD Manager and FDOT Project Manager. Solicit suggestions from all employees regarding the operational structure of the FDOT project workflow. Authority to address any conflict with the CAD Manager according to the Operations Manual. Authority to contact a client or address a field crew member regarding scope or questions. Perform short- and long-range planning consistent with company goals including a comprehensive management succession plan. Develop personal and company-oriented goals and objectives based on his/her own performance evaluation and guidelines provided by the President. Implement and enforce normal operating policies and procedures in accordance with approved company policies. Purchase ordinary daily field supplies and minor equipment as needed for the daily operation of the Field Department. Ensure that all Field personnel are recording their time on a regular basis and following the procedure on Time Entry. Ensure that all D.O.T. projects comply with the standards set by the D.O.T. Ensure that all vehicles are properly maintained, and a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule is followed which holds the operator of the vehicle accountable for the maintenance. Ensure that all field equipment is properly maintained; to include but not limited to inventory, security, maintenance, repair and availability. Ensure that all field teams have radio communication readily available and that all radio equipment is in good working order. Complete periodic inspection of jobs in progress in the field. Make the Project Manager aware of your plan and accompany the Project Manager whenever possible. Follow any required Scope of Service and Quality Control checklists for the project assigned. Submit all processed and/or manipulated data to the FDOT Quality Control Manager for quality control processing before delivery to the Project Manager, Field Crew, or CAD Technician. Responsible to report any problems that may affect project scheduling to the Project Manager or Project Surveyor. Record time spent on the job on a daily basis, following the procedures for time entry. Notify the FDOT Project Manager of any foreseen need to purchase equipment beyond the normal daily operating supplies. Produce quality processed surveying data, including, but not limited to checking and adjusting field measurements, boundary line analysis, DTM creation and electronic file processing as assigned by the FDOT Project Manager in a timely manner. Ensure that for all projects which show property lines of any type, the location of the property lines has been compared to recovered documentation, record dimensions and occupation. Perform all necessary tasks to ensure the longevity of all data, including but not limited to regular computer file archiving, hard copy filing, etc. on a regular basis as instructed by the FDOT Project Manager. Have all the tools and information needed to complete the projects assigned. Maintain external relationships of the company consistent with the objective, operating philosophy and desired image of the company. This includes customer, public, and community relationships. Maintain a current knowledge of the industry (including a knowledge and review of the competition) and making himself/herself familiar with current industry trends, procedures and evaluating new supplies, products, etc. Continually improve his/her knowledge of CAD programs and other tools and methods of processing and manipulating raw data in particular, and of computers and the profession of Land Surveying in general. Maintain a working style that is in accordance with SSMC Safety Manuals and accepted methods to avoid injury. Continually strive to maintain the highest level of safety in the field and encourage your subordinates do the same. Practice the adequate control, protection and use of the assets of SSMC. Help develop policies and procedures to aid the production of any product or service of SSMC Help maintain a work environment that has a positive effect on employee morale. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled meetings as required by the CAD Manager. Maintain a satisfactory or better rating at annual performance reviews; maintain an Action Plan for improvement. Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws and regulations. May perform light office duties including but not limited to filing, making copies, and scanning. Carry out other responsibilities duties as assigned by FDOT Project Manager, CAD Manager, Project Managers and/or President/Vice President.

MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE

Project schedules have been met, or CAD and FDOT Project Manager have been informed of unforeseen delays. Goals for increase of knowledge and performance have been met. Quality control standards have been met. Workstation has been properly maintained on a regular basis and completed work has been properly archived. Regularly scheduled meetings have been attended and demonstrated an active role in participation. Has actively participated in and/or completed management tasks assigned by the FDOT Project Manager Time has been entered into the computer on a daily basis, following the procedures for time entry and to ensure proper billing to clients.
