Working under the direction of a party chief or surveyor, the Rodman handles equipment such as survey rods, prisms, and other tools necessary to measure and mark land features. Duties typically include setting up and breaking down equipment, clearing brush for line-of-sight, holding or positioning the rod at designated points, and recording measurements. Rodmen play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and accuracy of survey operations, often working outdoors in a variety of weather and terrain conditions. This position is ideal for individuals interested in learning the fundamentals of land surveying and progressing toward more advanced roles like Instrument Operator or Party Chief.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with field surveys by handling and positioning survey rods and prisms Set up and take down survey equipment Clear obstructions for measurement lines Follow directions from the surveyor or crew chief Maintain tools and ensure proper use of safety equipment
Skills & Qualifications:
Physical stamina and ability to work in varied outdoor environments Basic math and measurement skills Willingness to learn technical aspects of surveying Good communication and teamwork
