Survey Crew Chief Job Description We are seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our team. The ideal candidate will have the ability to operate a total station instrument, data collector, GPS rover, and level, as well as complete basic field calculations and survey line clearing. You will maintain a clean work vehicle, follow safety procedures, take directions from Project Managers, and lead a survey crew efficiently. Responsibilities Operate total station instrument and data collector. Operate GPS rover. Operate a level and read a level rod. Complete basic field calculations. Cut and clear survey lines using hand tools. Maintain a clean work vehicle. Follow basic safety procedures. Take directions from Project Managers and efficiently coordinate work. Lead and supervise one or more individuals on a survey crew. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience in land surveying, preparing survey documents, and running crews. Experience with boundary, topographic surveys, wetland surveys, ALTA, construction staking, and similar tasks. Create plats, drawings, as-built surveys, tree and topographic surveys, and exhibits using AutoCAD. Proficiency with Trimble survey equipment. Ability to communicate clearly with field crews, engineers, and project managers. Proficiency with total station, GPS, topography, AutoCAD, and ALTA surveys. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School diploma or G.E.D. required; formal training in a surveying-related field is a plus. Strong work ethic and self-motivation. Ability to work in a timely and accurate manner. High individual moral and ethical character. Clean driving record. Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®). Work Environment The successful candidate will collect field survey data for various types of surveys including boundary, topographic, ALTA, wetland, and tree locations, and construction layout. Employees will receive proper PPE material for onsite work. Expect to wear clothing that can get dirty or torn, and be prepared to walk long distances in woods, wetlands, and marsh areas, encountering bees, hornets, snakes, and other outdoor elements and insects. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with some Saturdays, from 6 am to 3 pm, totaling 40-50 hours per week. The team meets at the office and reports to the Survey Manager for crew assignments, leading a team of 1-2 surveyors. The location is in the Savannah area.
