This position is located in Guilford County in the McLeansville office. This posting is for an Engineering Specialist II position that will serve as a Survey Party Chief for Division 7. This is the highest level of technical work and support in the Division office, performing a wide variety of the most complex and advanced assignments including analyzing, evaluating, computing, editing, and processing higher level engineering and other survey information. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing (includes planning, processing, and adjustment) or reviewing establishment of project control networks utilizing GPS, Drone and/or conventional survey methods. Work involves an extremely wide range of independent decision-making and use of judgment and would normally include some supervision and providing work direction to others. Employee will check and review technical aspects of survey data and mapping from both in-house and contracted services, to ensure that proper procedures are followed, and appropriate accuracies are obtained according to NCDOT, Location & Survey, and generally accepted surveying standards. Other duties will involve supervision and review of litigation surveys and may serve as expert witnesses in litigation cases. Work is performed under very limited technical and limited administrative supervision and may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience with route locations and other survey policies and procedures. Experience in managing or leading survey crews in daily activities. Working knowledge of CADD, MicroStation, and Geopak; including editing the work of others. Experience with planning and reviewing survey work performed by others. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with co-workers, management, contractors and general public to express complex technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, and organized manner.

Additional Expectations:

Employee must be able to lift 50 pounds, work in high traffic areas, work at heights over water or traffic, work in extreme temperatures, traverse uneven terrain, and work at night and weekends if necessary. Safety toe shoes are required. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
