Job Description

Construction Staker Assistant Gary L. McElmurray Construction Co., Inc. 181 Old Jackson Hwy, Beech Island, SC 29842 Position is responsible for assisting lead construction staker in accurately marking out the boundaries and key points of a construction project on a site using surveying equipment, ensuring that all building elements are placed in the correct location according to the project plans, including utilities, foundations, and structures. Key responsibilities of a construction staker: Interpreting blueprints and plans: Accurately reading and understanding construction plans to identify key points and reference lines for staking.

Setting up survey equipment:

Operating surveying instruments like total stations, theodolites, and GPS units to establish reference points and lines on the site.

Marking out construction boundaries:

Using stakes, flags, and paint to physically mark the precise locations of foundations, walls, utilities, and other construction elements.

Performing elevation checks:

Ensuring proper grading by taking elevation measurements and marking critical points on the site.

Maintaining accurate records:

Documenting stake locations, measurements, and any discrepancies with the project plans. Collaborating with other construction team members: Coordinating with surveyors, engineers, and construction crews to ensure accurate staking and resolve any issues that may arise.

Quality control checks:

Verifying the accuracy of stake placement and addressing any errors before construction begins. Required skills for a construction staker: Strong understanding of surveying principles: Knowledge of surveying techniques, including angles, distances, and elevation measurements. Ability to read and interpret construction plans: Proficiency in reading blueprints and understanding construction symbols and specifications.

Attention to detail:

High level of precision needed to accurately mark stake locations.

Physical endurance:

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and walk long distances on construction sites.

Technical skills:

Proficiency in operating surveying equipment like total stations, GPS units, and theodolites.

Problem-solving skills:

Ability to identify and resolve issues related to staking accuracy and coordinate with other team members to find solutions.

Job Type:
Full-time Pay:

$15.00 – $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
