Building and Codes Responsibilities:
This position is required to provide both routine clerical and detailed informational assistance to citizens, contractors, and other associated departments. The primary function of the position is to issue permits for the construction of residential and commercial structures, issue permits for the installation and relocation of manufactured homes. Maintain a working knowledge of applicable codes, ordinances, and department procedures as well as application procedures of associated departments required to carry out the issuance of required permits. Scheduling of daily inspection requests, filing, and maintenance of records. Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties Ability to obtain a working knowledge of County Ordinances, and directives directly or indirectly associated with the issuance of permits for construction, manufactured homes, and various miscellaneous permits. Understanding that carelessness could result in legal actions, suspensions or revocation of contractor licenses, and or/ monetary penalties. Other actions could result in errors in the tax system affecting the Assessor, Auditor, and Treasurer’s offices that could potentially affect county revenue. Various construction terms, methods, and stages of construction. Objectively interpret and consistently apply requirements and related standards following department policies. Communicate in the English language by phone or in-person in a one-on-one or group setting. Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar. Ability to accurately calculate fees from an established schedule. Ability to exercise sound judgment in performing both routine and complex assignments. Works on own responsibility after assignments are made. Assignments are normally in terms of results and priorities of effort. Although guidelines are available, they may be either general in nature or incomplete, requiring interpretation to fit specific cases or situations. An employee may have some choice in terms of methods and may develop work methods which are consistent with established policies and procedures. Employee consults with a supervisor, appraising him or her of progress and developments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalency 1 to 3 years’ experience
