Description The City of North Miami is seeking a motivated and service-oriented Sustainability Clerk to support the implementation of key environmental and resilience programs. Working under the supervision of the Sustainability Administrator, this role provides technical, administrative, and community outreach support to advance the City’s sustainability goals. As a vital member of the Community Planning and Development Department, the Sustainability Clerk will help coordinate educational initiatives, community programs, and interdepartmental projects that address climate resilience, environmental equity, waste reduction, and urban greening. The position also plays a critical role in engaging residents, organizing events such as the flagship Earth Fair, and supporting programs like the Food Forest Initiative, Keep North Miami Beautiful, the Shoreline Master Plan, and the Urban Tree Inventory. Essential Job Functions Serve as a frontline resource for sustainability inquiries from residents, partners, and City staff.
Support and help implement city-wide sustainability initiatives in areas including climate adaptation, recycling, water conservation, and sustainable land use.
Assist with event planning and community outreach, including tabling at public events, organizing sustainability workshops, and coordinating volunteers.
Contribute to special projects, including logistics, marketing, and partner engagement.
Help develop and distribute communications materials, including flyers, newsletters, and digital content.
Provide customer service related to sustainability permitting and initiatives; assist with landscaping/tree removal permits.
Perform general office duties including document preparation, data entry, research, recordkeeping, and responding to inquiries by phone and email.
Support interdepartmental coordination and track progress of sustainability and grant-related projects. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED, plus at least one (1) year of college coursework completed.
Minimum of one (1) year of customer service and clerical experience in an office setting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively across departments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Horticulture, Urban Forestry, Biology, or Energy Management.
Experience with community engagement, educational outreach, or sustainability program coordination.
Bilingual English/Creole or English/Spanish a plus.
