This position ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and standards involving safety, environmental management, chemical control, general campus safety and fire safety. Serves as the sustainability officer for all campus initiatives. Provides leadership and direction in all areas of regulatory compliance and safety program including strategic planning and campus wide collaboration. Represents the College to various constituencies including governmental, insurance, and other related entities. Plans and develops safety related policies and training opportunities for staff. Inspect and monitor all areas for compliance and report deficiencies with solutions for compliance. Responsibilities Investigate all accidents and provide recommendations for new or improved procedures to prevent injuries. Enforce all applicable safety policies and regulations, hold employees accountable to the standard. Chair Safety Committee. Primary contact for all environmental compliance agencies and organize and maintain all records of activities. Provide compliance for EPA, MDEP, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, and other areas. Personally, be present when any hazardous waste is being shipped to disposal facility, regulate medical waste, outdated pharmaceuticals, waste oil, chemical stockroom bi-annual disposal, and universal waste. Ensure compliance with all regulations, codes, laws, and best practices, including proper record keeping. Responsible to provide vison and guidance on all college sustainability endeavors. Manage recycling efforts on campus. Serve as a liaison for student groups. Work with all officials and jurisdictions to provide code compliance. Areas include City Building and Fire Departments, State elevator inspectors, DEP inspectors, and Health Department. Also provide testing scheduling for fire alarms, private hydrants, elevators, sprinklers, fire extinguishers and suppression systems. Ensure employee and contractor compliance with all applicable fire & life safety codes, building codes, environmental regulations, OSHA regulations, college policies, and oversee quality control, finish level, and function of all work performed. Maintain accurate records including permits, health inspections, environmental records, etc. Ability to read, interpret and apply information from files, drawings, schematics, catalogs, laws, procedures and standards Member of the Emergency Response Team, provide resources as needed for emergency planning and training and during actual emergency situations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science/Engineering/Compliance, Occupational Safety, Construction Safety, Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facility Management, related degree. Minimum of 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of work experience (including specialty in a trade) and/or training required. Minimum of two years in a lead role or direct supervisory experience required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and industrial safety standards. Strong working knowledge of Building Codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes, state/local code compliance, design programs, construction and service standards, customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance work methods/practices. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other personnel including subordinates, peers, superiors, vendors, contractors and other contacts. Demonstrated good organizational/priority management skills, excellent oral and written communication skills. Good administrative and computer skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Maintenance Management Systems, Databases, Architectural software (CAD, Revit, etc.), Scheduling software, etc. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other personnel including subordinates, peers, superiors, vendors, contractors and other contacts. Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from files, drawings, schematics, catalogs, laws, procedures, standards, reports, and manuals. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, and be a self-starter. Ability to analyze situations and information, consider the risks and implications and implement a plan of action. Have project management experience, including managing contractors, sub-contractors, local regulations, planning, schedules, and budgets. Must possess adequate experience to estimate man hours & materials and to visualize the job to be performed. Devise innovative approaches to problems encountered.
