As part of the Worldwide Environment team, Amazon’s Worldwide Carbon team is dedicated to working across the company with our business units to make operational changes to accelerate solutions and decarbonize our businesses in service of The Climate Pledge. The Worldwide Carbon Team is looking for a Principal Program Manager, Carbon. The successful candidate will develop tools and mechanisms to accelerate Amazon’s transition to net-zero operations, with a particular focus on assessing the cost of emerging technologies for transition glidepaths and developing innovative financing solutions to encourage their adoption. This role requires a unique combination of strategic thinking, quantitative analysis, technical decarbonization experience, and practical project implementation experience in one or more high emitting sectors. The ideal candidate will be able to navigate complex stakeholder environments, understand technological, macroeconomic, and market barriers to decarbonization, and create solutions to overcome these challenges. Key responsibilities of this role include: Key job responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic frameworks to help Business Units evaluate and execute decarbonization opportunities, including technological solutions and financing mechanisms.
- Work with teams across the company to drive development and utilization of Marginal Abatement Cost Curves (MACCs) in planning and investment decisions that consider technological readiness, market conditions, policy frameworks, and regional contexts.
- Regularly update Amazon’s senior leadership on the technological, financial, and economic levers that will drive cost curves and supply chains for low carbon solutions in commercial industries such as transportation, building construction, fuels, aviation, and maritime shipping.
- Collaborate with multilateral finance institutions to identify strategic opportunities to accelerate climate technologies and solutions, and opportunities for novel financing mechanisms.
- Support Amazon Business Units in developing region-specific decarbonization strategies that consider local market conditions, policy environments, and technological capabilities.
- Engage externally to explore public-private partnerships and blended finance to accelerate the transition to net zero.

- 7+ yrs of experience in sustainability, climate action, environmental economics or related fields in the private sector
- 7+ yrs program or project management experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives
- 5+ yrs of experience with large data sets, and analytics
- Proven track record of using data and metrics to drive strategic decision making
- Experience working with emerging markets and developing economies, including in the Global South
- Strong understanding of blended finance and technology commercialization
- Experience working with multilateral institutions, such as the United Nations, World Bank and the International Energy Agency Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in relevant field (e.g., sustainability, business, economics, engineering)
- Experience in cost forecasting and modeling
- Experience in corporate venture capital, development finance, or project finance
- Demonstrated understanding of latest industry trends and emerging decarbonization technologies relevant to Amazon (e.g., transport, buildings, cloud computing)

The base pay for this position ranges from $149,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
