Engineering Technician Job Description Perform a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical areas. Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, diagnose, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems. Work from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions. Operate related equipment, conduct tests, and report data in prescribed format. Perform calibration and alignment checks, make adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed, and prepare prescribed compounds and solutions. Responsibilities Perform integration, assembly, and test of new systems vehicles and auxiliary equipment from work instructions and assembly drawings. Perform testing and troubleshooting with engineering and software development to identify and correct system level problems with vehicles and auxiliary equipment. Read and understand diagnostic data. Read and understand technical schematics. Set up and use test equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators, and other input/output electronic test equipment. Familiarity with general computer operation. Perform basic soldering. Perform diversified duties to troubleshoot PWBA’s, Assemblies, and Modules. Troubleshoot complex analog and digital circuits to the component level. Make recommendations to improve current procedures and assist Manufacturing Engineering in implementing new procedures. Work within limits of prescribed procedures to produce a sufficient quantity of working PWBA’s, Assemblies, or Modules to support the Master Production Schedule. Discuss technical problems encountered while troubleshooting or testing with Engineering. Essential Skills Troubleshooting Soldering Electronics Electrical Schematic reading Electronic assembly Oscilloscope usage Test equipment operation Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate’s Degree or other 2-year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years related experience. Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. J-STD soldering certification, or ability to obtain. IPC 610 certification for the Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies, or ability to obtain. IPC 620 certification for Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, or ability to obtain. Work Environment Work on a clean and quiet manufacturing floor.
