Job Description

PROTECTION AND CONTROL TESTING TECHNICIAN – PUERTO RICO
Primary Function of Role:

Growing publicly traded electrical contractor are seeking Protection and Control Testing Technicians to work in Puerto Rico on 6 month rotations with time off every 6-8 weeks for an indefinite period to assist with System Improvements on the island network. The primary duties will be relay and control testing in Utility and Industrial settings, and install, maintain, repair, and testing on all types of protective relaying. Candidates must be able to read, understand, mark up, and correct customer drawings, diagrams, and blueprints. Candidates will perform operational tests for transformer protection systems and generator controls, conduct relay and function testing, trip path verification to lockout, and place equipment in the proper functioning condition. Bilingual candidates you can speak Spanish with resident ties to Puerto Rico are preferred, but not required.

Principal Responsibilities and Activities:

Testing of metering, remote controls, data system, relays, and trip circuits
Cross-check control and protective circuit diagrams to ensure the system meets industry/utility standards.
Perform function testing of all devices to ensure all equipment is operating properly
Examine and evaluate control circuits, control equipment, voltage regulators, batteries, and other related equipment.
Testing of T&D protection schemes for Line, Bus, Bank, and Breaker protection with electrical, mechanical, sloid state, and microprocessor relays
Understand and interpret diagrams, schematics, and blueprints
Deep understanding of protection schemes (overcurrent, differential, distance protection) and SCADA integration.
Skilled in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving electrical issues during commissioning
Perform various field repairs and inspections
Manage and maintain test equipment
Field training of other technicians
Direct experience in this area is required. This position will be working in Puerto Rico. The following will be provided. Transportation provided (may be one vehicle for every two people, no guarantee of individual vehicle)
