DESCRIPTION
Job Summary Performs professional engineering work involving the design, review, and oversight of various roadway and intersection improvements construction projects for the In-House Design Traffic Operations Section within the Transportation Management Services Department, Transportation Engineering Division, to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards. Essential Functions
- This position performs roadway and intersection improvements design functions. A background primarily in roadway design is required, as well as a working knowledge of FDOT specifications, the FDOT Plan Preparation Manual and MUTCD. The candidate must also be an expert in the use of highway engineering software.
- Prepares design and construction documents pertaining to division projects; prepares plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Designs/develops engineering plans, and specifications associated with proposed projects; defines design needs; determines design solutions; produces designs using computer-aided design (CAD) software and drafting instruments; reviews design for compliance with applicable laws, codes, and standards; maintains computer models and provides modeling data to consultants.
- Coordinates or performs project management; prepares, reviews, and monitors project schedules and budgets; monitors construction and maintenance contracts/agreements.
- Performs site visits, field inspections, or land surveys of projects and developments; inspects projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications; conducts inspections or collects data at sites; performs surveying to collect data; sets elevation; takes photographs and measurements of field conditions; resolves problems at site.
- Performs engineering analysis and prepares engineering reports; evaluates problems and recommends solutions.
- Provides technical advice, information, and assistance concerning engineering issues, project management issues, design/construction activities, and other issues to contractors, consultants, County staff, public agencies, or others; responds to questions or complaints; assists in resolving engineering problems, project development issues, or conflicts involving project participants; recommends solutions to problems.
- Coordinates work activities with those of other divisions/departments, contractors, consultants, outside agencies, or others as needed.
- Provides budgetary estimates and input.
ADDITONAL FUNCTIONS.
- Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- Five (5) years of related experience.
- Fingerprinting Required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
- Must possess and maintain valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
- May possess PE from another state but must obtain a Florida Professional Engineer license within 12 months from date of hire.
- Must possess and maintain of a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
