Job Description

Senior Traffic Engineer – 2025-8048 at Kleinfelder in Portland, Maine, United States Job Description Job Description Step Into Your New Role As a Senior Traffic Engineer, you will lead, manage, and oversee traffic engineering design projects from initial studies through to final construction plans. This role involves managing a team, solving engineering problems, and providing project management for medium to large-scale projects. You will collaborate with a skilled team of engineers, scientists, and planners to provide innovative solutions while fostering long-term client relationships and driving operational excellence. Our teams enjoy a hybrid schedule, which allows us to offer this role in Portland, ME or Manchester, NH.

Responsibilities:
Project Management:

Lead and manage traffic engineering design projects from initial studies through final construction plans, ensuring timely delivery, budget compliance, and client satisfaction.

Team Leadership:

Provide technical direction to the traffic engineering team, ensuring high standards of design, analysis, and project quality.

Technical Leadership:

Provide technical direction to project teams, ensuring high standards of design, process engineering, and quality.

Traffic Analysis:

Oversee traffic analysis, design, and safety studies, including traffic impact studies and operational analyses.

Client Management:

Build and maintain relationships with municipal and private clients, ensuring long-term contracts and ongoing project success.

Business Development:

Contribute to business development efforts by participating in proposal presentations and marketing activities.

Project Delivery:

Manage scheduling, cost control, and resource allocation for traffic engineering projects.

Quality Assurance:

Review and ensure designs meet Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) standards.

Collaboration:

Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers and planners, to deliver integrated traffic solutions.

Mentoring & Thought Leadership:

Contribute to technical conferences, committees, and internal development programs.

Qualifications:

BS in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
12+ years of hands-on experience in traffic engineering, including design and analysis.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
3+ years of project management experience, particularly in traffic design and analysis projects.
Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, including the use of traffic data collection, analysis techniques, and design criteria.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and traffic engineering software. Strong communication, organizational, and technical writing skills.
Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is a plus. Experience with DOT and private sector projects is preferred.
