Description of Work This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. This position will serve as the Assistant Division Traffic Engineer in the Traffic Operations Unit located in Greensboro. Employee will be responsible for reviewing traffic impact analysis and project plans, performing general safety and mobility traffic studies, handling necessary coordination and/or inspection for projects under design and construction that the Traffic Unit is overseeing and attending meeting related to these items as needed. This position is responsible for coordinating the operations of the Division’s Traffic Signing and Pavement Marking group. It leads subordinate employees in applying traffic engineering principles in the operation and maintenance of traffic control devices in the Division. This involves performing traffic engineering investigations, evaluation of the safety and operation of the roadway system and recommending adjustments as needed and making recommendations and seeking funds for safety and operational improvements. This position will also conduct other traffic investigations as assigned. Professional engineering skills and knowledge to perform and evaluate investigation such as requests for speed limit modifications, pavement marking modifications and safety studies, etc. Thorough knowledge of the MUTCD. Promote safety and safe working environments. Ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, personnel, and the general public. Knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices and theories used in traffic engineering
Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
Experience reviewing engineered plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with traffic and engineering principles
Additional Expectations:
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required.
