JobDetails We are seeking an experienced Highway and Traffic Engineerto join our growing team, where collaboration and work-life balanceare at the core of our culture. This role combines the excitingchallenges of highway design with traffic engineering, offering theopportunity to work on diverse and impactful transportationprojects throughout the Capital Region, Lower Hudson Valley, andbeyond. This position will allow you to work alongsidemultidisciplinary teams of highway and traffic engineers,transportation planners, and construction inspection staff,contributing to projects that improve infrastructure and positivelyimpact communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop roadway, trail,and sidewalk designs as part of larger transportationinfrastructure projects. Lead or assist in traffic impact andsafety studies, evaluating existing and proposed transportationimprovements. Perform intersection design and layout, includingroundabouts and traffic signal systems. Prepare constructioncontract documents, project reports, and cost estimates. Manageday-to-day project activities, including planning, scheduling,budgeting, and client communication for both basic and intermediateprojects. Provide supervision and delegation of tasks to juniorengineers and technicians. Apply traffic engineering principles andmodeling tools such as Synchro and Vissim to perform detailedtraffic analyses. Oversee quality assurance and quality control(QA/QC) processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.

Lead project and public meetings, acting as the clientrepresentative for assigned projects. Coordinate with clients,stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the successfuldelivery of projects.

Essential Job Functions:

Plan, schedule, andcoordinate detailed phases of engineering work for transportationprojects. Apply judgment and independent evaluation to executetasks while following standard practices and procedures. Analyzetransportation designs using appropriate software applications andrecommend improvements. Anticipate project goals and completeengineering assignments of intermediate complexity. Serve as theProject Engineer for basic projects, handling staffing, scope,schedule, and budget management. Provide mentoring and guidance tojunior staff members, while handling client relations for routineprojects.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering froman

ABET/EAC

accredited program or an approved equivalent.

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required. 6 years ofexperience in a similar highway and/or traffic engineering role.

Proficiency in engineering design software such as MicroStation,Inroads, AutoCAD, Synchro, and Vissim. Working knowledge oftransportation planning guidelines and manuals (e.g., NYSDOTHighway Design Manual, MUTCD, NACTO). Active involvement inprofessional engineering organizations is a plus.

Technical Skills:

Design, develop, and prepare complete plans and specifications forhighway and traffic engineering projects. Perform trafficengineering analyses and interpret test data. Ensure projectdeliverables meet client requirements and are completed on time andwithin budget. Review and check design calculations prepared byother team members for accuracy.
