Ensures compliance with plans and specifications for both state and federal projects. Studies and accurately interprets plans, contract documents, specifications, permits, etc. to ensure projects adhere to requirements. Prepares, completes and maintains all forms, checklists, and spreadsheets associated with the work inspected. Plans and performs inspection work in all phases of highway and bridge construction projects. Conducts sampling and field testing on projects. Takes and submits samples and certifications to the laboratory for testing. Acquires and maintains required field testing certifications. Reviews sampling and testing requirements to ensure adequate samples have been obtained and logs are updated to represent the materials used during construction per SCDOT requirements. Maintains and enters accurate notes and quantities into SCDOT systems. Prepares daily diaries, weekly and monthly reports. Assists in preparing monthly and final construction estimates, change orders, pre-construction conferences, and final as-built plans and other documents for project closeout. Performs computer work as necessary to perform these assigned tasks. Performs miscellaneous tasks including, but not limited to, day and night time traffic control inspections, erosion control inspections, EEO and DBE interviews and reporting, etc. to ensure the project complies with all SCDOT and regulatory requirements. Assists survey party chief and performs duties in a survey party for project quality control verification, including operation of various surveying instruments. Assists in coordinating with utilities on utility work and relocations. Maintains utility diaries on complex projects and coordinates utility relocation work with contractor and project plans. Meets with the general public and contractor personnel. Addresses complaints in a thorough and timely manner. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
