Transportation Engineering Technician III (61033193) 2.9 2.9 out of 5 stars Lexington County, SC Job Responsibilities At Lexington Maintenance, assist RME (Resident Maintenance Engineer) with gathering data for various types of road conditions, reports deficiencies and makes recommendations. Gathers data for various types of road conditions by physical inspection and reports data to RME. Assists with gathering data by investigating damage claims submitted to the Department as a result of alleged negligence on the part of the Department. Makes recommendations to the Resident Maintenance Engineer (RME) on approval or non-approval. This includes conducting field studies to collect technical data. Performs field inspections. Collects and evaluating all pertinent and available information including, but not limited to, searching HMMS and pot hole log in order to properly answer the claims received.
Performs field inspections on various elements on the road such as guardrail, pot holes, or anything that looks out of the ordinary that may need to be addressed. Must maintain log of damage claims received. Assists with gathering data for various types of County contract projects. Makes necessary field inspections for work being performed under encroachment permits to ensure compliance with Department policies and standards.
This position will require the technician to complete Day Time Road Inspections in accordance to EDM 8. Must communicate regularly with applicants about progress of work and adherence to Department specifications and standards. Assists RME with requests for lane closures on all State roadways for parades and festivals. Works extended hours during emergencies or hazardous weather. Works with resident engineers, maintenance foremen, representatives of local and state entities, consultant engineers, district office personnel, private citizens, and Lexington County officials looking up right-of-way in files for all and advises accordingly. Maintains all right-of-way files in the maintenance office and up keep of map room. Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Additional Comments May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
