The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at the University of Memphis invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in transportation beginning as soon as possible in the broader area of emerging technology implications in transportation systems (vehicle telematics, automated and connected vehicles, vehicle electrification, VR/AR technologies). Other areas of research include but not limited to are impact of technology on traffic safety and operations. Experience in operation research and advanced statistical modeling will be preferred. Outstanding candidates with expertise in related areas will also be considered. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Sabya Mishra and Dr. Subhash Jha on projects related to transportation demand modeling, planning, and operations (both on passenger and freight). There will also be an opportunity to work with other faculty members from Center for Transportation Innovations in Education and Research ( C- TIER ). Salary is competitive and includes full benefits. The appointment period will be 12 months initially with the possibility of extension to the second year based on performance.

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with a background in transportation (not necessarily from Civil Engineering). A background in applied mathematics and/or operations research in passenger and/or freight transportation is preferred. Candidates should have a publication record in transportation and/or related fields. Knowledge of travel operations research (GAMS or similar), demand modeling software (e.g., TransCAD, Cube, Visum) meso- and micro-scopic simulation (Vissim, SUMO, Synchro), Geographic Information Systems software (e.g., Arc

GIS, QGIS

) is required. Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, R, Matlab) is preferred.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to carry out research under minimal supervision, contribute to the formulation and submission of research proposals and publications (quarterly and final reports, peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings) and mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants and students.
