Valid Driver’s License (Required) SUMMARY TheCity of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works / Engineering Division ishiring a Senior Engineer Aide that performs a professional engineeringand administrative position. This position requires strong Engineeringskills and personnel management in the office as well as in the field.

The Senior Engineer Aide is responsible for managing citywideinfrastructure construction programs consisting of coordinating effortswith contractors, developers, City / State / Federal Departments, andprivate utilities; determines if construction workmanship is withinspecification’s tolerance by inspecting contract plans andspecifications on construction projects such as highways, buildings,sewers, and drains; designs in-house projects for highways, site-work,utilities, and various other infrastructure improvements complete withplans, specifications, and cost estimate, all in accordance with soundengineering principles and practice within City and State standards.

To be minimally qualified for this position, one mustmeet the following criteria: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering orclosely related discipline

• with three (3) years’ experience andprogressive responsibility in public works operation, construction,engineering, or a closely related field. ? Required Minimum ofAssociates Degree in Science and a minimum of five (5) years? experiencein engineering and design of roads and stormwater systems may beconsidered. Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License
• Required StrongWriting Skills
• Required Knowledge of basic mathematics, elementaryalgebra, and plane geometry.

Knowledge of the principles and practicesof intermediate to advanced engineering field surveying. Knowledge ofthe types and uses of equipment used in engineering field surveying.

Advanced knowledge of terminology, symbols, codes, and standardabbreviations used in civil engineering work. Ability to code andarrange data according to a given order or procedure. Ability to read,interpret, and apply technical literature, laws, rules, regulations,descriptions, blueprints, plot plans, topographic maps, etc., related toCivil Engineering. Ability to use appropriate formulae used indetermining exact locations and measurements (lines, grades, areas,etc.). Ability to interpret and apply written instructions. Knowledge ofOSHA regulations and requirements. Demonstrated working knowledge ofpertinent Federal and State regulations. Knowledge of public biddingrules; preparing of bid packages to include product specifications andbid review. Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D,HydroCAD, GIS, PermitEyes, Word, and Excel software. Knowledge of metaldetectors, measuring tape, survey equipment, and various draftingequipment and techniques.
