Disability Rights & Resources (DRR) is seeking a detail-oriented, mission-driven accountant with a strong background in nonprofit financial management. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with multiple federal, state, and local grants and will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of DRR’s accounting systems, ensuring compliance with grant and regulatory requirements, and providing key financial insights to support decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Planning Collaborate with leadership to develop annual budgets, multi-year financial plans, and cash flow forecasts. Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and improvement. Monitor budget performance and recommend adjustments as needed. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making by senior management and the board of directors. Financial Recordkeeping o Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software and spreadsheets. o Record all financial transactions, including revenue, expenses, and accounts payable/receivable. o Maintain organized and auditable financial documentation. Financial Reporting o Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). o Maintain accurate and timely financial records in QuickBooks and Excel. o Reconcile bank statements and manage accounts. o Generate customized financial reports for internal stakeholders, board members, and external funders. Grant Accounting o Collaborate on grant proposal development by providing accurate financial data and preparing detailed program budgets that align with funding requirements and project goals. o Manage and track multiple grant budgets and expenditures across federal, state, and local funding sources. o Allocate agency operating costs by calculating and assigning appropriate percentage shares to each grant in accordance with approved cost allocation plans. o Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual invoices and financial reports for funders, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with grant requirements. o Monitor grant budgets and proactively alert program coordinators and senior management to any instances of over- or underspending to support timely adjustments and ensure optimal fund utilization. o Assist program coordinators in preparation of budget revisions. Audit and Compliance o Support the annual audit process by providing documentation, schedules, and reconciliations as requested by auditors. o Ensure compliance with IRS regulations for tax-exempt organizations and other regulatory requirements as required in Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200). o Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting nonprofit organizations. General Administrative Support o Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the grant management process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or similar field (preferred)
- 1-3 years of accounting experience (required)
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (required) and intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills (required)
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
