LOCATION

This position is on-site, office-based in Atlanta, GA (hybrid model – 3 days remote / 2 days in office- Tuesday & Wednesday) The Role Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Senior Accounting Manager, the Accountant is responsible for recording, analyzing, and reporting accounting transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for the Accounting Department. Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
National:

Review and analyze General Ledger balance sheet, income & expense accounts to ensure accuracy with regards to amounts posted, coding, accrual, reversal of accrual, and proper amortization of prepaid expenses. Analyze operating cash account, reconcile bank statements to General Ledger operating cash accounts, record interest income and all bank transfer activity; contact banking personnel and resolve all discrepancies. Liaise with Accounts Payable personnel in outstanding checklist reconciliation. Reconcile total investments reported in portfolio to General Ledger investment account. Record all gains/losses, interest and dividend income and accruals. Maintain a schedule of fixed assets and depreciation, and make appropriate entries. Prepare and analyze training, conferences and events accounts, and provide reports to the appropriate program managers. Monitor restricted and endowment funds. Prepare schedules (expenses vs. budgets) and coordinate with project personnel to ensure expenses will not exceed budgeted amounts. Prepare month-end financial statements for reporting to department heads.

Alliances:

Assist the Accounting Manager, Alliances and Vice President/Controller in the maintenance, processing, recording, and reporting of accounting transactions for State Alliances. Assist the Accounting Manager, Alliances to obtain financial records, award letters, grant documents, board rosters and other financial information from all alliances, and maintain a log of all awards received. Record all cash receipts in the accounting system and ensure appropriate supporting documents are received for checks deposited in the banks. Reconcile bank statements to General Ledger cash accounts on a weekly / monthly basis, and follow up outstanding items. Prepare requests for payments to vendors and process payments after ensuring they are in compliance with organizational policies. Process requests for payments. Assist the Accounting Manager, Alliances to implement “Funding Holds” consistently across the board for federal, state and private sector grants to Clubs. Prepare and post journal entries in the accounting system.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare various lead schedules and financial reports for year-end audit, and provide requested information and respond to questions regarding schedules. Perform special projects or assignments as required by the Senior Accounting Manage Demonstrate BGCA mission-driven values of integrity, excellence and inclusion and integrate into work environment and ways of work. SUPERVISION EXERCISED

No direct Reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and student interns Qualifications

EDUCATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting or education/experience equivalency. Minimum of one to three years of experience in corporate accounting or public accounting environment. SKILLS Working knowledge of standard and advanced accounting theories, principles and fund accounting in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles is essential. Knowledge of computerized accounting software, Microsoft Access and other Microsoft Office applications are essential.

ABILITIES

Ability to exchange, clearly and concisely: ideas, facts, and/or technical information and guidance, in person, by telephone, fax or correspondence. Ability to apply problem solving and analytical skills to carry out detailed instructions.

Physical requirements include:

sight, sitting for four plus hours a day, stooping; skills essential for successful communications including speaking and writing
