Position Summary:

The Accountant II performs complex accounting tasks, including reconciliations, budget monitoring, and financial reporting. The position supports the school district’s financial operations and contributes to accurate and timely reporting under the direction of the Chief School Financial Officer.

Days Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with three years of related experience (governmental accounting preferred) Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and government auditing and reporting regulations Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software Knowledge of GAAP and governmental financial reporting Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with all departments to prepare accurate annual budgets Monitor ongoing expenditures, compare them against budget forecasts, and identify significant variances Recommend and implement corrective financial actions to align expenditures with budgetary plans Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Conduct detailed variance analysis to determine discrepancies and understand the underlying causes Develop financial reports that clearly summarize operational performance Provide robust financial modeling and forecasting to aid in strategic planning and improve predictive financial accuracy Oversee and refine the processes for accounts payable and receivable to enhance efficiency and accuracy Conduct complex account reconciliations and manage the overall reconciliation process to ensure accuracy in financial reporting Lead the preparation for internal and external audits and provide support in addressing any queries from auditors Implement corrective actions and improvements recommended by audit findings Ensure all financial recording is up to date and accurately reflects the business operations Use financial management software to streamline accounting processes Prepare for and assist the Chief School Financial Officer with state audits Enforce financial policies that comply with local, state, and federal regulations to maintain financial security Analyze financial trends and performance to provide insights that support business decision-making Investigate financial misappropriation across the district and report findings to the Chief School Financial Officer Perform other duties as assigned by the

Physical Requirements:
