About our

Department:

The Finance Department is responsible for monitoring the financial performance for City departments, managing the procurement of goods and services for the city, and managing the citys cash flow from taxes, resources, and debt. Finance further provides the citizens of Huntsville, elected officials, city departments and other parties financial services and financial management information.

Accountant III Position Overview:

This is advanced and highly specialized professional fiscal or accounting work. Work may involve maintenance and reconciliation of financial records for various aspects of city functions or departments, financial reporting for both internal and external stakeholders and revenue or payable accounting cycle management. Work may also involve team leader responsibilities on large or sensitive projects or programs. Work is performed according to professional standards, City ordinances and regulations, state law, and federal law and regulations. Work is reviewed by the division manager/supervisor for the quality of work performed and the effective functioning of the unit.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or closely related field with major course work in accounting. A minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience which demonstrates a thorough professional level of accounting.

Possession of a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for employees whose job requires traveling.

Certified Public Accountant status is preferred.
