Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions Lead and execute critical components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses. Perform key account reconciliations, including Cash, Fixed Assets, General Liabilities, Prepaids, and Inventory. Demonstrate working knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP) and an emphasis on Accounts Receivable (AR) processes. Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards. Support the preparation of both internal and external financial statements and related reports. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, sub-ledgers, and associated financial systems. Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insight and ensure accuracy in department-level reporting. Contribute to process improvement efforts and assist in documenting accounting procedures. Serve as a reliable resource and strategic partner to the Controller and CFO on special projects, audits, and ad hoc reporting requests. Build and maintain strong working relationships across all levels of the organization, demonstrating professionalism and adaptability in a diverse workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with a focus on general ledger and month-end close processes In-depth understanding of GAAP, GASB, and general accounting principles Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel Required Experience At least 5 years of experience in general ledger accounting preferred Experience in a government, nonprofit, or public sector environment preferred Proven ability to independently manage month-end close processes in mid- to large-sized organizations Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time-management skills Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse work styles

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day) at a desk while working on a computer. Manual dexterity is necessary to operate standard office equipment, including computers, calculators, phones, printers, and copiers. Visual acuity is required to review spreadsheets, financial reports, and other detailed documents on screens and in print. The role may involve occasional walking, standing, bending, or reaching to access files or attend in-person meetings. The ability to lift and carry light office materials, typically up to 15 pounds, may be needed. Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective interaction with team members and stakeholders. Eligibility Qualifications Must be authorized to work in the United States.

During month-end, quarter-end, or year-end close, the work environment may become more fast-paced and deadline-driven. The position involves frequent use of office technology and may require flexibility in working hours during peak reporting periods or audits. Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, non-exempt position typically requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during standard business hours. Additional hours may be necessary during peak periods such as month-end, quarter-end, year-end close, audits, or other time-sensitive financial reporting deadlines. Flexibility in scheduling may be required to meet organizational needs and ensure timely completion of critical accounting tasks.
