General Description The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities. Compute wages and overtime payments, calculate and record payroll deductions, process requests for paycheck adjustments, and process terminations. Essential Job Duties Process and balance monthly and bi-weekly payroll for faculty, staff, temporary staff, students, and summer school employees.
Review computer generated payroll reports to ensure the accuracy of each employee’s payroll.
Establish and maintain computer database information on the Banner system for employees, including setup of new job information for employees and review and input changes regarding pay rates, status change, benefits and deductions.
Process job-ship and work study student personnel action forms for all departments. Compile the required documentation for all student employees.
Disseminate payroll, ensuring timely and accurate deposits of pay and distribution of checks and pay statements.
Upload all monthly and biweekly payroll direct deposit files to bank; also process and upload positive pay payroll files to bank.
Verify leave balances for employees in FMLA status.
Request and process garnishments and child support checks including logging payment information for employee backup information.
Maintain log of check and direct deposit numbers.
Maintain time and leave approval queues.
Prepare standard reports as required.
Produce payroll transfer memos to Payroll Manager.
Process and remit payroll taxes in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Assure records are organized and processed in the appropriate length of time as prescribed by the Alabama State Records Commission.
Provide courteous, accurate information to the campus community and to the public concerning all areas of the Business Office.
Maintain professional relationships with employees.
Provide payroll information to various areas of the University.
Provide customer service for staff, faculty, and students.
Assist with maintaining Payroll Procedures Manual.
Provide backup to the Payroll Manager. Additional Duties Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all-inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.
