Job Description
Description We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our client’s growing team. Reporting to the Finance Manager/Controller, this role will play a critical part in ensuring the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial processes. The ideal candidate will have experience with month-end close, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliation, budgeting, and grant allocation. This position is essential to the organization’s mission of ensuring sound financial management to support impactful programming and services.
Key Responsibilities:

Month-End Close:
Support the monthly financial close process, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations. Ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards. +
General Ledger Maintenance:
Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy of all entries and account balances while investigating discrepancies. +
Journal Entries:
Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and other adjustments as needed. +
Account Reconciliations:
Perform monthly account reconciliations, including bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts, to ensure accurate reporting and issue resolution. +
Budgeting:
Collaborate with program and operations teams during the annual budgeting process, monitor timely updates, and provide variance analysis to support decision-making. +
Grant Allocation:
Manage the allocation and tracking of grant funding to ensure compliance with funder restrictions and accurate financial reporting. Work closely with program managers and funders for reporting requirements. +
Audit Support:
Assist with annual audits, including preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
Requirements Core Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred + Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization. + Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), with a focus on nonprofit accounting standards. + Experience managing grant allocations, restricted funding, and funder compliance requirements. + Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar tools) and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. + Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. + Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. + Strong communication skills with an ability to collaborate across teams and explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
