Accountant indeed@sigilpartners.com Torrington, CT 06790 Full-Time Accountant | Onsite in Northwest Connecticut We’re looking for a detail-oriented, proactive accounting professional to help drive financial accuracy and transparency for a dynamic public sector organization. This full-time role is based onsite five days a week in Torrington, Connecticut, and offers a rare blend of stability, mission-driven work, and exceptional benefits—including 22 vacation days, 13 paid holidays, and a 5% retirement annuity contribution. About the Role This position plays a critical role in the organization’s finance team, reporting directly to the Director of Finance. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger, managing fund balances, and maintaining compliance with a wide array of federal and state regulations—especially those tied to grants and related funding. You’ll also support internal budgeting efforts, prepare financial reports, collaborate with external auditors, and serve as a key liaison across departments like HR and administration. This is an opportunity to contribute to high-impact financial work that supports long-term operational planning, educational initiatives, and responsible public spending. Key Responsibilities Manage the organization’s general ledger and ensure timely, accurate reconciliations Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports Submit expenditure reports for federal and state grants, including education and healthcare funding Maintain accurate accounting for grant-related transactions and ensure compliance with all applicable guidelines Assist with budgeting and forecasting, including analysis of staffing costs and capital projects Prepare financial documents and schedules for annual audits and regulatory reviews Monitor and manage special purpose funds, reserve accounts, and fixed assets File required federal and state tax forms, such as 941s, W-2s, and 1099s Participate in finance committee or board meetings as needed, presenting data clearly to non-financial stakeholders Maintain productive working relationships with auditors, local agencies, and regulatory bodies What You Bring A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field 5+ years of experience in professional accounting with general ledger ownership Experience in fund accounting, grant compliance, or public sector finance strongly preferred Solid working knowledge of Excel, along with familiarity with ERP systems Comfort working under deadlines in a high-responsibility environment with limited supervision Strong communication skills—you can explain complex financials to stakeholders with varying degrees of financial knowledge A CPA certification is preferred but not required—well-qualified non-CPA candidates will also be considered Why Apply?
