Staff Accountant Position Available In Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region, Connecticut

Description Our nonprofit client in Groton, CT is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant for a temp-to-hire opportunity. Key Responsibilities:

+ Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including handling accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R). + Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring accuracy in financial records. + Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and assist with reconciling grant-related accounts. + Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for reporting purposes. + Monitor and track budgets specific to grant funding and project allocation. + Maintain and ensure compliance with financial controls and policies in line with nonprofit regulations. + Assist with the organization’s audits by gathering documentation and supporting external auditors. + Prepare and analyze budget reports, providing insights to assist in effective decision-making. + Collaborate with internal departments to resolve discrepancies or enhance efficiencies in accounting processes. + Utilize accounting software and Excel for data entry and analysis tasks. Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. + A minimum of 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or similar environment. + Proficiency in accounting software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. + Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and experience with grant tracking/reporting. + Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. + Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. + Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills. + Commitment to confidentiality and ethical financial practices.

Preferred Skills:

+ Experience with nonprofit accounting software or systems, such as QuickBooks Nonprofit Edition or FundEZ. + Knowledge of federal and state grant compliance and reporting requirements. + CPA or equivalent certification (a plus but not required).
