Senior Cost Accountant Department:

Finance
Reporting to: Senior Director FP&A

Location:

Danbury, CT
Greenfield is looking for a Senior Cost Accountant to join our growing team. The Senior Cost Accountant will report directly to the Senior Director, FP&A and will be part of the team responsible for month-end close, accurate inventory costing, account reconciliations and analysis.

Your Experience Should Include:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (CPA preferred)
7 or more years of related general accounting experience in a complex manufacturing environment
Ability to lead a holistic costing environment including the standardization and automation of best in class costing practices, drive continuous improvement in the function and successfully partner with business leaders
Experience and familiarity with multiple costing methodologies and the ability to make informed recommendations on method of best fit for varying manufacturing environments
Experience with Microsoft D365 is an asset
Possesses a strong systems background and excellent analytical skills
Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and with competing priorities

Job Responsibilities:

Apply fundamental accounting theories and concepts to support the cost accounting function
Planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw
material purchases, inventory, labor, and finished goods
Analyzing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services
provided, to determine effects on cost and margins
Ownership for item set-up and cost updates to drive accuracy of all bills of materials
Collect and analyze all relevant costing data to develop and maintain accurate cost
estimates for materials and labor; update on ad hoc basis as needed
Review of the integrity and reasonableness of the cost accounting systems on a periodic
basis; establish a recurring cadence and process for updates
Manage the cost accounting module in D365 including open & close of inventory module at
month-end
Calculate actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing estimated
costs to actual production costs and investigate variances
Review production batches for reasonableness and consult with production to resolve
anomalies
Perform daily KMT inventory reconciliation and month end inventory reconciliations
Measure, track and report on accuracy of batch order cost estimates vs. actuals
Analyze labor absorption and correct variances to ensure cost accuracy
Coordinate periodic physical inventory counts, ensure adjustments are booked accordingly
Provide guidance and recommendations for periodic inventory revaluations; advise on
required accrual rates to cover potential inventory de-valuations
Ensure prompt updates are made to cost estimates to reflect new transfer pricing changes
Manage month-end financial close process for inventory and related items, and liaising with
finance team on the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations
Assist with various audit processes by providing requested information and explanations
Train other employees & temporary contractors on cost accounting tasks and processes as
directed by the Controller
Lead or assist in ad hoc projects as needed
