The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (“SFRTA”), the operator of Tri-Rail, is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Accountant , in the Department of Finance, to join our team. Responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. This role involves managing general ledger activities, performing account reconciliations, processing financial transactions, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports. The position requires strong knowledge of accounting principles and a high level of attention to detail to support the integrity of financial data and the agency’s overall operational efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintain and Analyze Accounting Records:

Maintains detailed accounting records and analyzes financial data to support accurate monthly reporting and reconciliation.

Prepare Financial Reports and Statements:

Compiles financial information to prepare internal and external reports, including monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.

Reconcile Accounts and Record Adjustments:

Analyzes and reconciles assigned accounts and prepares necessary journal entries to ensure accurate reporting within the accounting system.

Maintain General Ledger Integrity:

Posts accurate accounting data to the general ledger and ensures that all entries are correctly classified and documented in accordance with agency policies.

Reconcile Bank Statements:

Performs monthly bank reconciliations to verify the accuracy and timeliness of recorded revenues and expenses and ensure compliance with accounting standards.

Process Journal Entries:

Prepares and enters journal entries related to recurring transactions, accruals, adjustments, and corrections during financial close periods. Assist with

Year-End Audits and Special Audits:

Prepares documentation and schedules for annual audits and works directly with auditors to gather information and address audit requests. Ensure Adherence to

Accounting Standards and Regulations:

Ensures all accounting activities are conducted in accordance with prescribed accounting principles, administrative policies, and regulatory requirements.

Support Payroll-Related Activities:

Provides support for payroll processing tasks, including reconciliations and report preparation. Serves as backup during peak periods or when payroll staff are unavailable to ensure continuity of payroll operations.

Understands basic payroll processing, fixed asset tracking, and audit support procedures in a financial environment.

Microsoft Office Suite:

Utilize Word and Outlook for communication, documentation, and collaboration across departments.

ERP or Financial Management Platforms:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting or a closely related field. Minimum Experience A minimum of two (2) years of related experience in accounting or finance. Equivalent Experience Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be substituted. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, with one (1) year of relevant experience substituting for one (1) year of required education. Preferred Qualifications A minimum of one (1) year experience in government accounting. Work Environment Sedentary in a
