Senior Accountant – Job Description Position Summary The Senior Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, and supporting the month-end close process. This position requires a strong grasp of GAAP principles, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings a proactive approach to problem-solving, process improvement, and financial analysis. Key Responsibilities Lead monthly and year-end closing activities including complex journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting schedules. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Support the integration of financials for new acquisitions and business units. Assist with annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and variance analysis. Prepare documentation and schedules to support external audits and tax filings. Collaborate with departments such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Credit to ensure accuracy and efficiency of financial data. Conduct monthly commission and job cost calculations. Participate in preparing information for sales tax filings and assist with compliance reporting. Provide explanations for monthly and quarterly budget-to-actual variances. Recommend and help implement process improvements and internal controls. Assist with special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required. 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; CPA or CMA preferred or in progress. Strong working knowledge of GAAP; experience with IFRS is a plus. Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas). Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite, Infor M3, or similar. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities independently. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Prior experience supporting audits and preparing variance analysis preferred.
