Position Vacancy Announcement Florida A&M University’s Office of the Controller is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Property Records Accountant vacancy. Responsibilities The incumbent will oversee the accurate recording, depreciation, and reporting of the University’s capital assets in compliance with state and federal regulations; Performs complex accounting tasks related to capital assets, including but not limited to asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and transfers; and prepares and analyzes financial reports, ensuring they comply with applicable standards and regulations. On a monthly basis reconciles capital asset sub-ledger to general ledger accounts to ensure accurate representation in financial statements; Assists with the preparation of audit schedules related to capital assets and participate in the audit process; Implements and maintains internal controls over capital assets to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and university policies; Collaborates with other departments to enhance asset tracking and reporting procedures; Reviews for appropriateness assets being capitalized; Maintains accounting records, develop and uphold fiscal policies and procedures, monitor compliance with State and Federal laws; and recommends systems for operational efficiency enhancement. Assists with accounting and management of property, ensuring alignment between Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Asset Management modules; Recommends budget revisions based on operational and capital expenditure analyses; Oversees the accurate valuation of assets, including depreciation calculations, lifespan estimations, and property category classifications; and maintains comprehensive accountability for all capital assets (furniture and equipment, buildings, and infrastructure) to support annual financial statements. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency and four years related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization. Recommended Competencies Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards; Proficient with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access; Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; Effective communication skills both written and oral; and Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Degree in Accounting; and A least 2 years accounting experience. Pay Plan This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position. Conditions of Employment Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education.
