Position Summary:
FANM seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accountant with CPA certification to manage the financial health and compliance of the organization. The ideal candidate will be mission-driven and bring experience in nonprofit accounting, grants management, financial reporting, and audits. This position plays a key role in ensuring fiscal accountability, transparency, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and oversee the organization’s general ledger and all financial transactions using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit Edition). Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including budget-to-actuals and variance analyses. Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations and nonprofit reporting standards. Manage and track restricted and unrestricted grant funds; prepare financial reports for funders and stakeholders. Collaborate with department heads to develop and monitor program budgets. Support the preparation of the annual organizational budget and forecasts. Process payroll, manage employee reimbursements, and ensure timely vendor payments. Monitor cash flow and advise on financial planning and strategy. Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity. Provide financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred). Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and fund accounting. Experience with grant accounting, federal and state funding sources, and reporting. Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks required) and Microsoft Excel. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
