JOB SUMMARY

Assist Manager Technical Accounting and senior management with varying functions related to SEC reporting, derivatives, technical accounting research, process controls and ad-hoc special projects according to business demands. Assist with ensuring that all financial reporting deadlines are met which may demand extended work hours at peak times. Observe responsibility and ownership of those items under their control. Produce financial reports, perform calculations and organize support for the reports. Coordinate and communicate with varying stakeholders in internal departments such as Accounting, Treasury, Legal, and Finance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with systems to prepare derivative accounting reports and assist Manager Technical Accounting in analysis of derivative transactions.
Review contracts for lease identification, write lease classification memos, and prepare lease related documentation.
Review contracts to assess contractual obligations and maintain supporting documentation. Also review contracts for embedded derivatives and prepare documentation as required.
Assist in the accounting for technical accounting topic areas such as going concern, goodwill, intangible assets, valuations, segment reporting, debt extinguishments/modifications, etc.
Coordinate support for and tie-out the SEC financial reports.
Prepare and tie-out other external financial statements such as statutory reports and 401(k) plans.
Prepare financial reporting packages.
Assist with research and assessment of technical accounting matters and disclosure requirements for significant, unusual and/or complex transactions or changes in accounting standards. Maintain accounting policies.
Assist with filings for debt instruments and/or equity offerings.
Preparation and/or review of SOX documentation. Prepare binders/files with support paperwork for evidence of control performance. Respond timely to certain internal and external auditor requests in connection with quarterly reviews and annual audit requirements. Monitor and report on the department’s timely response to external audit requests.
Perform other job-related functions, special ad hoc requests, and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS DEGREE TYPE

OF STUDY

Accounting

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3 years’ experience with public accounting and/or an in-house technical accounting position at a publicly traded company.
Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
Derivative financial instrument accounting (including hedge accounting), technical accounting, and SEC reporting strongly preferred.
Working experience with GL PeopleSoft and Hyperion Essbase preferred.

COMPETENCIES/SKILLS

Strong understanding of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) with ability to interpret accounting standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate level skills in Excel and Word.
Attention to detail, timeliness, and accuracy required.
Good planning and organizing skills.
Information and task monitoring, problem analysis, judgment and problem-solving skills.
Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet regular and frequent deadlines.
Ability to independently prioritize work according to business needs.
Teamwork, cooperation and ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management are essential.
